Another Brick in the Wall IIII…opps I mean IV

Dale Sackrider

Dale has been my leader, my coworker, and my friend in the almost 10 years that I have known him.  We car pooled and sat right next to one another for years and during our walks around the parking lot at work we solved all of the worlds problems.  He has helped me hone my critical thinking processes.

He has always helped me to look at things from a pastoral point of view, as that is his gift which has helped me to handle situations much better than I probably would have without his input.

Though our conversations I have come to a greater understanding of tradition and my own thoughts. (I have always believed a thought is best understood in the company of another)  Our relationship has helped to shape me in many, innumerable ways.

Bible Pals: Plush Jesus

Seriously?  This is what we have come to as Christians?  No wonder the world is laughing at the church.

Random Thoughts

  • I find it interesting that on “America’s got Talent” there are two Brits and one American determining if America’s got Talent.
  • The government as a whole refuses to allow people to suffer the ramifications of their bad decisions.  Stereotypically speaking the Republicans bail out ignorant businesses and the Democrats bail out ignorant individuals.  Why not allow people making bad decisions to serve as a lesson the rest of the country?
  • Why with such a promising future and all kinds of entertainment at his fingertips would Michael Vick be involved with dog fighting?
  • Researchers have discovered that a single grown moose can release as much methane as an 8077 mile car trip, will there be a call to eliminate moose for the sake of the environment?  Or will environmentalists have to admin that they just want to stifle humans.
  • Most people understand that a lot of money will buy you a better lawyer and hopefully less jail time.  But not it only appears that you have to be famous to have your time cut.  Nicole Ritchie only does 87 minutes of an already sad four day sentence?  It must be good to be part of that class of people, I wonder how long people will tolerate it.
  • I really wish Dr. No (Ron Paul) stood a chance at the Republican Presidential nomination.  He really supports what I stand for, but he won’t buy votes with taxpayer money so he probably doesn’t stand a chance.
  • I heard something today I had never heard before, music was pounding out of a car in the parking lot, not so rare you say?  It was Opera.
  • There are times when I just want to throw in the towel and move to a commune.  Really a farm where a group of people who are not a traditional family all live together produce what they need and just live a simple life.  What would that be like?

The Gospel

Over the weekend I was bowling with my wife, working on my hook, and I told her that recently I have been learning more and more that I had some traces of arrogance in my when it comes to my salvation.  I wasn’t quite able to articulate it to her like I wanted to so I changed the subject and thought about it some more.  The following are the conclusions I came to.

Another Brick in the Wall III…

Scott Harvey

Probably the only reason I made it through Bible College, Scott has been a great friend from the time we met in the hell called the dorms. We have had our troubles, which is one of the reasons I value this relationship I have learned the value of holding onto a good friend when you have found one, although a lot of friends come and go we refused to allow that to happen.

Scott is also the guy I invited to my first time preaching at Wildlife, because as much as I needed the “good jobs” that came from everyone else I needed someone to help me improve, and after the “Good Job” Scott did that. He told me where I was going wrong, he cares more about me than my approval which is a great quality to have in a friend.

The Problem With Boys… – Esquire

This article is well done but a little long, this is something that is a passion of mine, I believe I was probably one of those problem boys, and I may continue to be now.  If it wasn’t for Ron Sprecher (my track coach) and my love of running I probably would have dropped out.  It wasn’t that school was to tough, it was just boring, and in many cases pointless.  I got a D in geometry one semester because I didn’t do homework although I aced the tests, I just thought that was silly.  I obviously knew what I was doing, but I had practice until 6 and then worked 7-11.  I didn’t have time to waste.

Any way if you have boys in your life you should read this article.

Smokin’ Weed with Jesus?

No it isn’t just a catchy title to grab your attention although I think it will do that as well. I was watching Ralphie May’s “Girth of a Nation” comedy special and from the info page of my DVR it said one of the topics was doing drugs with Jesus, I was nervous but why not. I actually think he had some profound things to say especially in looking at how the Gospel would be written to a certain group of people.

Just a little Birdie…

I was sitting in my dentist’s office and just outside the window there was a bird feeder tree. (Five different kinds of bird feeders all hanging from one stand) and most of the birds were looking around on the ground for seed that has dropped.  One or two birds would fly up to the feeder and kick some off or even tip it enough that it would spill down for the little birds to pick up off of the ground, and I couldn’t help but wonder why they didn’t all fly up to one of the many feeders where there was a mass of food just waiting for them.

Another Brick in the Wall II…

Just a tribute to some of the people who have touched and molded my life…

Bob Malkin

Bob was another Campus Life Leader, his long gray pony tail and full gray beard set him apart from some of the other leaders, that along with his wonderful personality. I watched him with his two daughters, and I hope I can have that kind of relationship with Alora in the future. It was Bob who said one of the most prolific things ever to me as a young dumb Christian.

We were at a McDonald’s doing a lunch break on a trip home with Campus life and one kid, we will call him Steve, was sitting off by himself. Steve was a bit of a geek and I thought he didn’t have anyone to sit with so I told him to come sit with me. He said he was fine and someone would be joining him and eventually someone did. But I wanted Steve to know he was welcome with me, and when I turned back around Bob was looking at me and said, “You know Jason, I really saw Jesus in you just then.” It has stuck with me for more than 12 years and meant a lot coming from Bob, who looked more like Jesus and most people I knew.
